click the photos to open a bigger image our four intrepid pathfinders line up armed with a map of the course . . and when Gareth gives the word . . off they go . . and it's not long before the two cheeky boys (one of whom has the map) start to pull away from the girls . . meanwhile Simon is looking for somewhere to hang the 3k sign . . maybe this will do . . he doesn't look very sure . . but yes, it works . . we didn't have to wait very long before the two guys came into view across on the other side of the Lake . . whilst our youngest volunteer, having satisfied herself that everything at the finish was ready . . went back to sleep in her buggy . . and took a little stroll with Mum . . the guys close in and the volunteers are poised, ready to manage the finish of the run . . and here they are, rounding the final bend, bearing down on the finish . . the runners move on through the funnel, collecting their finish tokens, before going Sylvia and Gareth at the laptop to register . . as you can see the queue started to back up but Sylvia was equal to the task and everyone was processed in next to no time . . now confident in their roles, the finish team await the rest of the runners . . and David returned from his vigil at the 1k point . . and pretty soon . . our other two runners were coming round the bend, smiling (as parkrunners do) all the way to the finish and through the funnel . . Gemma explains where she and Marie went ever so slightly wrong . . and then completes registration . . |
