. . Carlton Lane was closed to traffic so that the banner could be put in place . . and this allowed the runners to warm up in safety before they lined up beside the churchyard . .

. . and suddenly, they were off and on their way . .

. . and as the runners wound their way up the hill towards Carlton, I went round the course in the opposite direction to a point in the 9th kilometre . .
