Well, it was dry . . and it was bright . . and given that it's January, it wasn't all that cold . . but boy, was it windy!! And so the 30th Brass Monkey Half Marathon took place on a sunny winter morning, when many of us . . in particular the runners . . almost got blown away by the gales that accompanied the sunshine . .

Before the runners began to gather at Race HQ there was time for some of the marshals to sit down, but soon the Ebor Suite started to fill up with runners and their supporters . .

. . and shortly before 10am the room was empty once again, as everyone waited for the Half Marathon to start . .

Once the runners had set off towards Bishopthorpe I made my way to Appleton Roebuck where I waited for everyone to run past me on their way out of the village. This was one of the first times during the race that the runners didn't have to contend with either a head- or a side-wind . . which meant that I had the wind blowing into my face for the hour I was there. At least I wasn't trying to move forwards into it . . just staying still was difficult enough!

Back at the Knavesmire there was plenty of room for those who weren't running to sit down and wait for the race to end . . and one or two things to look and enjoy . .

Once the runners had finished many of them came back up into the Ebor Suite to relax and wind down, and wait for the Prize-giving . .

. . amongst them were the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Horton, and the Lady Mayoress, and the Sheriff of York, Alan Deller, with the Sheriff's Lady. Councillor Horton was to present the prizes once the results had been prepared . .
