shortly before start time the runners make their way down from the sports field through to the road, and dodge the cars to get across to the other side where there's more room to wait before the road is closed to traffic and they can spread out . .

"Why did the runner cross the road?" To listen to the pre-race briefing, of course!!

once the road is closed the runners spread out, ready for the 10 miles that lie ahead of them . .

and as the head of the race cyclists show their balancing skills . .

and then finally they're off and the tension lifts as almost 400 runners set off on their 10 mile journey . .
