20th of August 1989, what a long time ago that was!! I went over from Bath to run the Burnham Beeches ½ for the first time, with a clubmate. We were training for the Birmingham Centenary Marathon which was to be at the end of the following month. I remember being disappointed with my time of 1.26.28 - we'd read that it was a fast course, but I guess my legs were full of marathon miles. Not too full though, because 8 days later I went to Devizes and ran 1.19.29. And in the 20 years since it's safe to say that my half marathons have taken me longer and longer as time has passed!

It was 14 years before I returned, on the 17th of August 2003, having just moved to the area, and I ran round in 1.50.13. I have run faster since then, but not very often!

For the record, in 1989 I finished 112th out of 868 finishers, and in 2003 I came in 517th out of 930. Anorak? Moi?!!!

Now in 2009 I'm back in a different guise as the race photographer dot com. I hope my photos bring back memories of a happy racing day for you . . please enjoy them

when you leave the car park to walk to the start, if you get as far as this sign, then you've gone too far (like I did!), so turn left, follow the road, and then left when you come to this sign, and you're back on track . .

you can't have too many signs . .
