What an exciting morning it was at Abingdon parkrun's 1st birthday event . . we had cake, we had trophies and prizes . . and we had royalty . .

We had more water in the River Thames than ever before in our parkrun's young life . . note the tide mark in one of the photos below showing how high the River had been . .

We were also to have more runners take part in our parkrun than ever before . . although of course we didn't realise that until a little later . . here's the team at the start . . and from a distance, the runners setting off on the 1st Birthday parkrun . .

Once everyone had run past me by the lock on the River twice, I got up to the further part of the course as quickly as I could to take some more photos of the runners as they approached the finish . .

Back at Rye Meadow the finish area was busy as the marshals did their best to register the record number of 134 runners . . only the second time we'd had more than one hundred participants . .

Then of course we had our presentations and prize-giving . . and cake and bubbly drinks . . before some of us went into town for our regular Saturday morning coffees . .

And after all that . . just time to have another look at the Thames before heading off for home . .
