It was cloudy, dull and grey when we arrived at Shiplake School for this year's Shiplake Scramble, a mostly off road 10k that takes the runners out from the School grounds and across the fields towards Sonning Eye, before turning back and running along the north bank of the River Thames and back, via a short sharp slope into the School once more . .

There had been a 1 mile river swim at dawn, and some shorter running races for children, before we arrived so the grounds were already full of people enjoying their morning . .

It was still quite dull when the Scramble started with a circuit of the playing field, although it did become much brighter once the race was underway . .

. . and despite the warning sign below, there wasn't going to be much traffic for the runners to worry about as they made their way across the Oxfordshire countryside . .

. . and some shiny bright trophies awaited the leading runners . .
