I'm sure that when I looked out of the window before setting off to Leighton Buzzard that the sky was blue and it seemed to be a pleasant spring morning . . and I suppose that at the time it may have been . . but by the time I got there to witness the new Leighton 10k, hosted by Leighton Fun Runners, an icy cold wind had found it's way from somewhere cold!! So standing still taking photos was a cool thing to do, but not in the way I usually think of it!

When I arrived at Vandyke School and found the Race HQ, everything was already in place and you could enter on the day, or collect your number and timing chip, quite easily . .

there was of course Cake . . seen here before and after . .

and even somewhere to take a pre-race nap, although I don't think you got much of a rest if you tried it . .

the start was a little way from Race HQ so there was ample opportunity to warm up beforehand . .

and Frank Bruno, who had come along to start the race, was happy to pose for photos . . before fulfilling his official role and getting the Leighton 10k underway . .

and as you can see, it was a colourful crowd of Runners who set off along Apennine Way . .

the course is a kind of not quite joined up figure of 8 (forgive the jargon) . . and having made sure the runners had safely crossed the road on their way out from Leighton, the Volunteers did the Marshal Shuffle ready for the return of the Runners, who were by now almost at 9k and on their way home . .

during the race there were wild flowers and wild (?) animals to admire . .

and even - for about 5 minutes - a different coloured sky . .

but unfortunately we were a week too soon for the local narrow gauge railway . .
