As you can see, we had a lovely summer's day for this year's Leighton Fun Runners' Club Duathlon, based in the interesting Buckinghamshire village of Mentmore . .

the Duathlon was preceded by a cheesy grin contest . . all that's missing here is a podium . .

and at around 10.30 the runners set off on the first 4.1 mile run of the morning. THis was folowed by an 11 mile cycle ride and for some, a second 4.1 mile run . .

it's difficult to say who's to blame as the village is listed in the Doomsday Book, but who ever it was that built it chose to put it on top of a hill, and so the athletes had to work hard at the finish of the runs and the cycle . .

fortunately the location didn't seem to spoil anybody's fun for very long, and once everyone was finished and bicycles squeezed back into cars, most of us crossed the village green to the pub, where we were able to reflect on the morning's exercise . .

thanks to everyone at Leighton Fun Runners for having me along, and especially to those taking part for not being rude when they found me at the top of the hill (they were probably too tired to say much anyway) . .
